Huay Lang Royal Project Development Center

History

In 1996, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visited Somthavil – Jintamai Patrol Police School at Baan Huay Lang, Moo 2, Tha Kham Sub-district, Wieng Khan District, Chiang Rai. During Her visit, Mr.Jong-neung Saksitthanupap, the village headman at that time, submitted a request letter for help and support on career development within the village. Subsequently, Huay Lang Royal Project Development Center was set up in 1999 to support career development, improve local people’s livelihood to enabling them to be self-sufficient as well as environmental restoration and conservation.

Operation

At present, Huay Lang Royal Development Center promotes vegetables, fruits and field crop cultivation as career development based on Food Safety Standards: Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) to create sustainable income and better life quality of local people. The center also supports the strengths of individuals and communities, young farmer development and Savings and Credit Cooperative Group. Furthermore, natural resources and environment conservation has been encouraged including reforestation project called “Three Forests, Four Benefits”, soil and water conservation with vetiver grass cultivation, chemical use reduction campaign, and contamination monitoring campaign. The center becomes a highland agricultural learning center for students, farmers and other interested people.

Main Products

Kailaan, baby Pak Choi, Japanese pumpkin, mixed salad, cabbage, pak choi, Japanese Melon, Jalapeño, Japanese Potato, pomelo, and coffee.
