Inthanon Royal Agricultural Station

History

Inthanon Royal Agricultural Station, Baan Khun Klang, Baan Luang Sub-district, Chom Thong District, Chiang Mai, is one of the four Royal agricultural Stations established in 1979. At present, the station is conducting researches on flowers, foliage trees, vegetables, fruit trees and highland fishery. Based on research findings, the center has passed on technologies and knowledges to Karen and Hmong farmers around the center in order to generate their income. The station has also supported the communities in basic infrastructure and social development as well as forest and water conservation.

Terrain

The area, located in Doi Inthanon National Park, is complex mountainous terrain covering 277,872 rai or 109,861 acres.

Population

More than 8,373 Hmong and Karen live in 11 villages and 35 communities. 


Operation

The main mission of Inthanon Royal Agricultural Station is to conduct research on flowers and foliage trees, develop and promote temperate crop cultivation to the hill tribe people in Doi Inthanon area. The station tasks also include economic, social, and environmental development, promotion on agricultural production under Food Safety Standard: Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), GLOBAL G.A.P., Organic Standard Thailand and IFOAM Standard, sustainable income generation and quality of life improvement for local people. Natural resource and environmental restoration and conservation activities have been encouraged with local people participation. Furthermore, hill tribe handicrafts conservation and saving group are promoted by the station. The station has become a highland agricultural learning center for students, farmers and other interested people.

Royal Project tomato, red cherry tomato, celery, fennel, zucchini, green sweet pepper, kale, French bean, pointed cabbage, baby pak choi, Chinese mustard, Kailaan, green oak leaf, red oak leaf lettuce, cos lettuce, Frillice Iceberg lettuce, peach, persimmon, grape, avocado, kiwi, strawberry, cape goose berry, apricot, Arabica coffee, rice, Highland yellow wild rice, Highland Kai-Pa wild rice, Rose, Gerbera, Lily, Gypsophila, Ornithogalum, Hare's tail grass, Achilleas, Banksia, Tithonia diversifolia and Sago bunch.
