Khun Pae Royal Project Development Center

History

Khun Pae Royal Project Development Center was established in 1984 by His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s initiative to improve the quality of life of his people. The center main tasks are to promote temperate crops to the farmers to replace shifting cultivation in order to generate their better income as well as to conserve and restore the environment.

The area is mountainous terrain with plains between valleys covering 35,132 rai or 13,890 acres.

Population

There are 3,266 Karen and Hmong living in 4 villages and 15 communities. 


Operation

Khun Pae Royal Project Development Center has set up field demonstration plots and provided supports for the local farmers in crop cultivation like vegetables, fruits and coffee based on Food Safety Standard such as Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) in order to increase the farmers’ income and improve their livelihood. The center also promotes and supports the community engagement by organizing development activities related to education, society, environment and public health. The reforestation project called “Three Forests, Four Benefits”, vetiver grass growing to reduce soil erosion, chemical use reduction campaign, and contamination monitoring campaign are also supported by the center. Today the center has become a learning center on highland agriculture for students, farmers and other interested people.

Main Products

Cabbage, Chinese cabbage, green iceberg lettuce, cos, baby cos, herbs, flowers (e.g. bird of paradise, hydrangea, eucalyptus), and fruits (passion fruit, avocado)
