Pang Da Royal Agricultural Station

History

The center was established in 1979 with the objective to find out more crop varieties for promoting to farmers. Formerly, Upland Rice and Temperate Grain Experiment Station in Sa Moeng District, Chiang Mai Province was selected as breeding center. On February, 12th 1987, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visited Pang Da Breeding Center and named the breeding center as “Pang Da Royal Agricultural Station”. Pang Da Royal Agricultural Station was moved to the area next to the reservoir of Huay Pla Gang Royal Project.

The area is plain at the foot of the hills covering 95,000 rai or 37,560 acres.

Operation

Nowadays, Pang Da Royal Agricultural Station is a collection center of crop varieties and research station on temperate and tropical fruits, flowers, organic vegetables, herbs and etc. It is also the center of foreign varieties trials and selection. Moreover, the center has provided supports for the local farmers in vegetable, fruit and field crop production under Food Safety Standard such as Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) to improve their income and livelihood. The center also promotes and supports individual and community strengths, Cooperative Saving Group, Hill Tribe Handicraft Preservation Group, Clean Village Project, natural resource and environmental conservation, reforestation project called “Three Forests, Four Benefits”, vetiver grass growing to reduce soil erosion, chemical use reduction campaign, and contamination monitoring campaign. The center has become a learning center on highland agriculture for students, farmers and other interested people.


Main Products

Sweet corn bi-color, purple sweet corn, white sweet corn, Chinese cabbage, white Chinese chives, Japanese sweet potato, avocado, passion fruit, fig, seedless grape, mulberry, Abiu, red kidney bean, black soy bean, navy bean, hemp, bresse chicken and organic laying hen.
